Azidamfenicol
Antibacterial structure similar to chloramphenicol.
Administration as 1% ophthalmic eye drops in bacterial ocular infections.
At the date of last update, we did not find published data on its excretion in breast milk.
The small dose and low plasma absorption of most topical ophthalmic preparations make it unlikely that a significant amount will be passed into breast milk.
Product of pharmacokinetics and effects not well known due to the fact that almost no bibliographic reference is available (Bioaustralis 2017) and commercialized in few countries of the world.
Until more published data on this drug in relation to breastfeeding are known, safer known alternatives may be preferable, especially during the neonatal period and in case of prematurity.
