Is Dichlorobenzyl Alcohol compatible with breastfeeding? Do we have alternatives for Dichlorobenzyl Alcohol?

Dichlorobenzyl Alcohol

October 15, 2018 (Very Low Risk)

Topical antiseptic used in the local symptomatic relief of mild mouth and throat infections (Weckmann 2017, McNally 2011).
Oral administration to suck up to 4 times a day.

At the date of last update, we did not find published data on its excretion in breast milk.

The small dose and rapid elimination make the passage of significant amount into breast milk unlikely.

Secondary effects are mild and infrequent (AEMPS 2017, Beckmann 2017, MEB 2015, MHRA 2011).

The manufacturer does not contraindicate it during breastfeeding (MHRA 2011).
